Five week series on cancer at Carrick branch library

A free five week lecture series on cancer, "Protect & Prevent – Taking Control of Your Health," presented by UPMC Cancer Center will take place at the Carrick Branch of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh on Wednesdays at 1 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend any or all of the sessions. Different topics will be covered each week:

October 24 – Understanding Cancer and Clinical Trials – Learn more about cancer and the importance of clinical trials in improving treatment, screening, and prevention.

October 31 – Decreasing Your Risk –Take steps toward a healthy lifestyle that reduces your risk for cancer and other chronic diseases.

November 7 – Sun Safety – discover the damaging effects of sun and tanning bed exposure and get practical advice on keeping safe from UV rays.

November 14 – The Environment – learn how the environment influences the risk for cancer, including exposure to household and personal care products. They will also discuss "greener" alternatives to protect an individual's health.

November 21 – Survivorship – the long-term effects of treatment will be discussed along with advice for improving health after treatment.
