Fun for dogs and their owners at Dogtoberfest

September 25, 2012

It's DogtoberFEST time.

The German harvest tradition takes on a canine twist for Saturday, Oct. 6 at the SouthSide Works. For the past several years, local non-profit group CARMAA (Coalition to Adopt, Rehome and Match Abandoned Animals) has hosted the dog event featuring animal shelters and rescues to promote adoption.

The day kicks off with a canine costume contest, "Pooch Pride Parade," which awards $500 in cash and prizes ($5 entry fee). Several demonstrations are featured throughout the day, along with Ask-a-Trainer and Ask-a-Vet booths, where professionals will answer your dog questions for free.

Look for festive foods such as kielbasa, pretzels, scalloped potatoes and more. Vendors feature handmade and specialty items, and there are plenty of dog related items to shop as well.

The event is free to attend and well behaved dogs are welcome. DogtoberFEST runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, and more information can be found at http://www.CARMAA-petadoption.com.
