Open House on Thursday at Allentown Adult Day Care

September 18, 2012

The Allentown Adult Day Service will celebrate National Adult Day Service Week with its annual open house Thursday, Sept. 20, 1 – 4 p.m.

This year's theme is Adult Day Services: Care, Compassion, Community. The special week provides opportunities to highlight adult day service centers throughout the country, enabling the public, especially those caring for older adults to learn about the services which include socialization, therapeutic activities, group outings and nursing services.

Using adult day services provides caregivers a break from providing total care for their loved ones. It also enriches the lives of the participants by providing a nurturing safe environment and allowing them to remain active.

The Allentown Adult Day Service which is a part of the Allentown Senior Citizens Center, Inc. has offered adult day services since 1985. The program serves participants 55 and older, who are physically, socially, or mentally impaired and who are in need of supervision throughout the day.

Thursday's open house will include tours of the facility and a chance to participate in the activities with the participants.

The Allentown Adult Day Service is on the first floor of the Henry Kaufmann Neighborhood House of the Brashear Association, corner of Fernleaf and Salisbury streets, Arlington.

For more information about the program, the open house or to confirm attendance, call Michelle Silliman at 412-431-0557 ext. 12.
