Bus fare increases, route reductions on July 1

June 26, 2012

Starting Sunday, July 1, increases go into effect on most Port Authority fares, including cash fares for full-fare and half-fare riders, all tickets and passes.

The fare increase is required to balance Port Authority's budget for Fiscal Year 2013, which begins July 1.

The base one-zone cash fare will increase 25¢

from $2.25 to $2.50 one way. Two-zone rides will increase 50 cents from $3.25 to $3.75 one way.

Additionally, fare changes will go into effect for ACCESS riders that same day.

In addition, scheduled route reduction will also go into affect.

Routes that will be affected in the South Pittsburgh area include the elimination of the 40 Mt. Washington, 43 Bailey and 44 Knoxville. Service will be reduced on the 48 Arlington, 51 Carrick, 51L Carrick Limited and the Mon Incline. The 54 North Side-Oakland-South Side will have service reductions along with the elimination of the Bon Air segment.

Service reductions could include fewer trips, a shortened span of service or reduced frequency. In the South Pittsburgh area the only route not expected to end at approximately 10 p.m. daily is the 51 Carrick.
