Souper Saturday coming up May 12 in South Side

Two South Side organizations are joining together to help better the lives of residents living in the South Side.

Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community and Public Allies Pittsburgh, an AmeriCorps program, welcome all South Side residents to the first "Souper Saturday" on Saturday, May 12 from 12-3 p.m. at Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community, Jane and 27th streets.

The event will feature various organizations offering services at no cost: Steel Center Vo-Tech cosmetology students will offer haircuts and mini-manicures, Reading is Fundamental, an organization focused on literacy in children, will be reading to children as well as handing out books.

Additional services include assistance in applying for a photo ID (as well as obtaining birth certificates and social security cards), a resource table with information on services available throughout the city, and a soup lunch.

"Souper Saturday" will be a monthly event: the first two will be May 12 and June 9.
