Yard Sale will help Allentown Academy

April 24, 2012

The Hot Metal Bridge Faith Community is planning a community yard sale in the church's parking lot and patio on Saturday, May 5 from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

In addition to a selection of gently used items, vintage curios, handcrafted items, and artwork, the yard sale will also feature live music and fresh food for sale from the Franktuary food truck.

Sellers can rent a six-foot table for $15. Table rental fees will be donated to the Allentown Academy Summer Camp to help ensure that children can participate without cost, but sellers are free to keep their earnings. To reserve a table, contact the church office at hotmetal@hotmetalbridge.com or 412-481-4010.

The summer camp is a new activity organized by the Brashear Association, a social-services organization that has been serving the South Pittsburgh area since 1917. It will feature the Brashear Association's summer feeding program which enables children to study urban agriculture, grow vegetables, and explore healthy eating options and food preparation. It will also offer recreation and enrichment activities.

The camp will be held for children currently enrolled in grades two through five and will meet at the Hilltop United Methodist Church, 631 Warrington Avenue, and also at Grandview Park. It is scheduled to meet from June 18 through July 12 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m ., Monday through Thursday. The camp will not meet on Fridays. There is no fee for participating, but transportation will not be provided.

For more information about the camp, contact Renee Greenlee, the education coordinator for the Brashear Association, at 412-431-2236 ext. 21 or rgreenlee@brashearassociation.org.
