Carson Clean Team going off road then going away

March 27, 2012

The East Carson Street Clean Team has been sweeping up and disposing of litter and debris on East Carson Street's sidewalks and curbs between 10th and 26th streets, seven days a week since 2008, and all that is about to change.

Effective on Friday, March 30, Ron Goings and DaVar Cutler – better known as the Clean Team - will shift their efforts to other parts of the South Side Flats.

"We have been told by many business owners that they can clean their own sidewalks and do not need paid street cleaning services. However, we wanted the Clean Team to continue during St. Patrick's Day parade week," said Dr. Paul Lorincy, president of the SSLDC Board of Directors. "Now, we are going to give them a chance to do projects on residential streets for the last three months that they are on staff."

"Since the SSLDC will be gone in 90 days, we know it is the last chance for the Clean Team to focus on more lasting, higher impact projects. Some of their upcoming projects this spring will include weeding and caulking brick intersections and curbs and repainting utility poles", said Aaron Sukenik, SSLDC business district manager.

The Clean Team is solely funded by the South Side Local Development Company through corporate support and other earned revenues that will soon end. The Clean Team is not funded by city taxpayer dollars.

The last day of operations for the SSLDC will be June 30, 2012.
