Allegheny County Police accepting applications for Camp Cadet Program

March 20, 2012

The Allegheny County Police Department is seeking boys and girls, ages 12 through 14, to participate in its Camp Cadet program, which will take place from July 22 through 28 at Camp Guyasuta in O'Hara Twp.

The program is free and open to young people who reside in Allegheny County. Applications will be accepted through April 15.

Allegheny County Camp Cadet is not a boot camp for troubled youth. The program seeks to provide campers with a better understanding of law enforcement activities while living in an environment similar to a police academy. The camp places emphasis on improving self-discipline and building self-esteem through teamwork and friendship.

Pennsylvania State Police, Allegheny County Police, Allegheny County Sheriffs, and local municipal police officers serve as Camp Cadet counselors and instructors. Daily activities consist of physical training, morning runs, and various other activities, such as presentations by different agencies, a mock crime scene investigation, mock criminal trial, and sporting events.

For additional information on Allegheny County Camp Cadet and to download an application, visit or call Officer Mike Spagnoletti at 412-473-1322.
