The Pittsburgh Health Corps (PHC), a local affiliate of the national AmeriCorps community service program, is recruiting new members for 2012-2013.
PHC is seeking 18 enthusiastic, service-oriented individuals for assignment to one of its partner agencies from September 10, 2012 through July 28, 2013.
Applicants must be at least 17 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED, and have passion and commitment to community service.
In exchange for contributing 1,700 hours of community service over a 46-week period, AmeriCorps members receive a living allowance of $12,100, an educational award of $5,550 upon completion of service, medical benefits, child care and transportation reimbursement. Members also receive the support and hands-on training needed for a career in public health and human services.
Administered by the Allegheny County Health Department, PHC increases healthy behavior and access to health services by enhancing the capacity of local non-profit organizations.
Positions available include patient educators, patient resource assistants, clinic liaisons, volunteer supervisors, nutrition educators, health educators, HIV/AIDS testers/counselors and patient outreach specialists.
