God Sent Grandparents group will meet on Friday, March 30

March 13, 2012

The Salvation Army God Sent Grandparents group will meet on Friday, March 30, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 1060 McNeilly Road.

This group was started in 1993 when Gloria Luten went into the Hill District to sign families up for Christmas services. She came back with the observation there were a number of grandparents raising their grandchildren.

The God Sent Grandparents group began to address their unique needs. In 1995 Fran Lewis took over the group and has run it for 19 years. There have been additional sites through the years.

The leader at the McNeilly Road location will be Mary Anne McFeely, MSW. She is a lifetime Pittsburgh resident and got both her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the University of Pittsburgh.

The three goals of this group are fellowship, ministry and education. The group will meet every other Friday during the school year.
