City issues request for proposals for youth employment program
The City of Pittsburgh's Department of Personnel has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the Mayor's 2012 Pittsburgh Summer Youth Employment Program (PSYEP).
The program will be split between two employment tracts, conservation service work and white-collar internship positions, and will be funded with $600,000 in CDBG funds allocated by the mayor, with possible additional funding coming from foundations and other sources. The 2012 PSYEP will serve approximately 250 city youths between the ages of 14 and 21.
"Teaching young people the value of hard work and earning an honest day's paycheck will keep them out of trouble and on the right track," Mayor Luke Ravenstahl said. "This summer jobs program has helped more than 2,000 young people prepare for 21st Century jobs while at the same time make a difference in their community and contribute to Pittsburgh's economic growth."
The 2012 PSYEP will begin on July 2 and end on August 10. To date, more than 2,000 summer jobs have been provided through PSYEP under Mayor Ravensthal's leadership.
The program provides up to 30 hours of experience per week, including work readiness or career exploration training, at a rate of $7.25 per hour. Contractual agreements with community-based organizations and/or other youth service providers that submit proposals are selected by an independent review panel.
Instructions, guidelines, and questions related to the RFP, including program requirements, allowable activity, and youth eligibility, are detailed in the document.
The RFP will be available through the following websites: http://www.pittsburghpa.gov; http://www.pittsburghpartnership.org; and, www.careerlinkpittsburgh.com.
Responses to the RFP will be due no later than 4 p.m. on March 16. The original proposal, with 10 copies, must be delivered to: Lillian Reese-McGhee, Assistant Director, City of Pittsburgh Department of Personnel, Pittsburgh Partnership, 406 City-County Building, 414 Grant Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
PSYEP applications will be available in May.
