Love is in the air...or not at Carnegie Library's mildly romantic, slightly educational Happy Hour
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is throwing a February bash that scorns the tacky heart-shaped cards and dozen long-stem roses that define Valentine's Day during a mildly romantic, slightly educational happy hour event at CLP – Main in Oakland.
A live action game Candy Land headlines a fundraising happy hour on Friday, Feb. 10 that includes jazz from the Tony Campbell Trio, a Sweets Showcase of Pittsburgh's finest chocolatiers, private tours of the library's Special Collections Room, a silent auction of library furniture and romantic cocktails, movies and literature.
Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – Main, 4400 Forbes Avenue, will reopen after hours for the Happy Hour crowd from 6:30 - 9 pm for
After Hours @ the Library, a 21 or older event for the romantic, lovesick, happily single, happily coupled, haters and everyone in between. The event benefits the continued operations of the Library. Tickets to the event include:
Live Action Candy Land - an interactive, unique take on an old classic game. Watch for pitfalls and visit with King Candy and friends. Attendees who make it to the Candy Castle will be eligible for prizes.
Live jazz featuring celebrated local saxophonist Tony Campbell.
Seven Minutes in Heaven with Andy – a photo booth starring our favorite cardboard philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. Admission to a silent auction of library furniture.
Exclusive access to the library's William R. Oliver Special Collections Room where the display will include a rare 17th century manuscript that was hand written by JS Bach; a ledger from The Old Stone Tavern, one of Pittsburgh's oldest buildings; and Andrew Carnegie's correspondence.
A Sweets Showcase featuring Pittsburgh candy shops and bakeries, including: The Chocolate Moose, The Gingerbread Shop, The Goodie Truck, Pittsburgh Marshmallow Factory and Toffee Taboo by Sendall Chocolates among others.
Specialty drinks courtesy of Full Pint Brewing and Wigle Whiskey.
A display of CLP's most romantic (or not) items, including romance novels, steamy DVDs and dating advice books.
Tickets are available in advance for $25 until February 8 and may be purchased online at
www.carnegielibrary.org/afterhours or by calling 412-622-6502. A limited supply of tickets will be available at the door on February 10 for $30. Proceeds benefit Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. After Hours @ the Library is sponsored by 91.3FM WYEP.
