‘Snow Angels' needed to help in the Hilltop neighborhoods

December 6, 2011

"Snow Angels" are needed to help clear snow from sidewalks, steps and walkways for seniors and physically disabled city residents on the Hilltop.

The city has@received@many applications from elderly and disabled residents in the neighborhoods of Allentown, Beltzhoover, Knoxville, and Arlington, but have yet to have any "Snow Angels" sign up to help. There are currently four applicants from Beltzhoover, three from Mount Washington, two from Knoxville, two from Arlington, and one from Allentown that cannot be matched because there haven't been any volunteers apply from any of the neighborhoods.

To be matched with a Snow Angel, residents must be age 60 or older, or have a physical disability and lack access to other snow removal resources. The city will provide volunteers with melting salt, brightly colored vests and a snow shovel. The program will kick-off during the first snow fall. More than 50 Snow Angels have already signed on from other areaa.

In order to apply to volunteer they can apply online at snowangels.pittsburghpa. gov@and click on the link on the left to fill out the application,

Residents can request a Snow Angel and able-bodied citizens or organizations can apply to volunteer at the city's ServePGH website at www. snowangels.pittsburghpa.gov or call the 311 response line and say they would like to apply to volunteer.
