Neighbors and friends of the Brashear Association are welcome to come and celebrate the season at Brashear's Holiday Open House. The annual event will take place Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Brashear Center, 2005 Sarah Street.
The event will be highlighted by a performance of the Phillips School Choir, under the direction of music teacher Gretchen Eckroat. The choir, which has performed throughout the area, will present a selection of holiday music.
The Open House will also be an opportunity for neighbors to drop off donations of non-perishable food items or new, unwrapped toys for Brashear Holiday Collection Drive. Brashear provides holiday assistance to low income families from the neighborhoods of Allentown, Arlington, Arlington Heights, Beltzhoover, Bon Air, Carrick, Knoxville, Mount Oliver, South Side Flats, and South Side Slopes.
"The last three years have seen huge increases in the need for our services as unemployment has risen. In the spirit of the holidays, we hope that people will remember to help their neighbors. We really want to make sure that we can provide toys for children in our service area so we welcome donations of toys and gifts for children, 12 and under," stated Hugh Brannan, executive director of the South Pittsburgh agency.
Brashear has provided holiday assistance for over two decades. For more information about the Open House or the Holiday Assistance Program, contact Brashear Association at 412-431-2236 or visit the agency's website at www.brashearassociation. org.
