HEDC follows Redd Up with ‘Crank it at the Clock'
Volunteers from Mount Oliver Borough partnered with students from the University of Pittsburgh to help brighten up this Hilltop neighborhood this autumn.
The Redd Up Mt. Oliver event took place on October 22 as part of the University of Pittsburgh's Make a Difference Day. Now in its fourth year, Pitt's Make a Difference Day partners approximately 2,800 students with organizations in more than 55 neighborhoods to assist with cleanup-related tasks.
The Hilltop Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) and Borough Council hosted a "Be The Face of Clean" Contest, with the goal of pairing each student with one volunteer from every street in the community
After Redd Up Day, the clean streets will make the perfect setting for a Halloween Party, as the HEDC and Borough host their annual Crank it at the Clock event. Starting at 4 p.m ., the residents of Mount Oliver and adjacent Hilltop neighborhoods can meet at the Clock Tower on Brownsville Road for a youth and family friendly event that combines tasty treats (hot chocolate, popcorn, and hot dogs), pumpkin decorating, hip-hop music, dancing, and a Moon Bounce for kids with even more energy to burn.
DJ Big Ed, founder of Christ in You, the DJ Party will help host the event as the DJ's will spin a mix of popular and Christian-based music while sharing personal anecdotes of challenges they overcame in their own lives. Big Ed describes Christ in You, the DJ Party as "All about fun and spreading a positive spiritual message. Though it's designed for kids, all ages are welcome to attend and can get something out of it."
