Becks Run Road traffic to be limited until early November

October 4, 2011

Becks Run Road will continued to be closed between Carson Street and Wagner Avenue until early November.

The extended closure is a result of inclement weather that affected Pennsylvania American Water's project restoration timeline, as crews need additional time to ensure the proper restoration of property and repaving of the road.

The company and its contractor needed to close the roadway to install new 42-inch water main as part of its Becks Run Pumping Station and Hays Mine improvement project. Traffic is limited on Becks Run Road to the outbound direction only between Carson Street and Wagner until restoration is completed.

All inbound traffic on Becks Run Road is detoured onto Wagner Avenue until the project is completed.

"While we understand the frustration of residents and motorists, the extended closure is necessary to ensure the safety of our workers, residents and motorists within the project corridor," said Jay Lucas, Pennsylvania American Water Project Manager.

The continued closure is necessary for the repaving of Becks Run Road, along with repairs to concrete curb and sidewalks and landscaping. The restoration follows the completion of the installation of approximately 2,900 feet of new 42-inch main along Becks Run as part of Pennsylvania American Water's improvement projects. This approximately $101 million upgrade will improve water treatment processes and ensure that the company's drinking water continues to comply with all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards.

Motorists are asked to find alternative routes and to avoid the closure area. Signs are posted to guide motorists using the posted detours.

For more information about the closures, or other portions of this project, customers can contact Pennsylvania American Water's contractor, Kokosing Construction Inc., at 1-877-856-3030.
