PIRC Response focuses on Police Zones 1 and 3

September 13, 2011

Pittsburgh Police along with State Probation/Parole and Adult County and Juvenile County probation personnel conducted a Pittsburgh Initiative to Reduce Crime (PIRC) Response Citywide with a focus on Zones 1 and 3 on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

The PIRC Response detail is a homicide deterrence strategy due to the recent homicides and violence citywide. Probation/Parole requested assistance from Pittsburgh Police personnel on the detail to provide for officer safety.

Forty-Four residences were visited and eight Probation/Parole pedestrian checks on the streets were conducted in the focused neighborhoods. Ten total arrests were made of adults and juveniles. From a PIRC interaction standpoint this is a high number of actual residents that were directly affected.

The police hope there will be some feedback from neighbors that realized the presence of law enforcement in these areas.

Arrested were:

James Lewis, 19, arrested for possession of a gun and marijuana at Greenleaf and West End Circle;

Larry Brazil, 21, arrested on FTA warrant in the 100 block of Watson Blvd.;

Eric William Neil, 23, arrested at Warrington and Boggs for possession of heroin;

Marc Cataldo, 21, arrested in the 1500 block of Broadway Ave. for possession of marijuana;

Jayvon Lemon, 27, arrested at Greenleaf and West End Circle for possession of heroin; and,

Thomas Easley, 24, arrested on Traffic Stop at Greenleaf and West End Circle for possession of heroin.

In addition there were three juveniles arrested: one in a stolen car after a chase near Elmore Square and two for probation warrants.
