South Side NID survey delayed in mail

September 6, 2011

Property owners throughout the South Side should soon have a copy of a survey in the mail concerning the formation of an "Improvement District," in the neighborhood.

Susie Puskar, neighborhood outreach coordinator, said the survey was to be sent to addresses throughout South Side including residences and businesses, but was delayed in mailing.

A copy of the survey is also online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SSIDresident for residents or https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SSIDbusiness for businesses.

An improvement district can be formed by the property owners in an area to provide additional or different services than those provided by the city. According to state law, the city is not permitted to decrease the amount of services already available in the district.

Since improvement districts are self-governed, property owners will determine what the desired services are and what the fee will be to provide those services. A South Side improvement district is being explored by the Improvement District Steering Committee of the South Side Planning Forum.

The results of the survey will be discussed at public meetings in October.

Those with questions about the survey or the South Side Improvement District may call Ms. Puskar at 412-481-0651 ext. 11.
