Rotary District Governor Sue Kelly,@district officers and Rotarians from several clubs in District 7300 came to South Side on Tuesday, Aug. 23, to celebrate the charter of the area's newest Rotary club, Rotary Club of Pittsburgh's South Side.
With an official date of June 14, 2011, the club chartered with 26 members, but has since added two more members. At the chartering party, Penny Folino received the Paul Harrison Award for her contribution to the "Feed the Hungry on Thanksgiving" project she has been deeply involved in for the last eight years.
Since the start of this project, South Side Rotary, Penny's Glass Bistro, and Pittsburgh Police have fed the hungry on Thanksgiving Day. Last year, the project fed 1,500 people who live in the Hilltop neighborhoods. Chairperson for this project is Kathy Crawford, she can be reached at 724-772-3439 or email@example.com.
With a falling economy and the need to help South Side and surrounding communities, area business owners, professionals and residence felt the need to restart a community organization that could help to unite and work with the other non-profit organizations to meet the needs facing its communities.
