South Side property owners still have time to fill out NID survey

There's still time to fill out and return the survey from the South Side Planning Forum concerning the formation of an "Improvement District," in the neighborhood.

Property owners throughout the South Side received a copy of the survey in the mail last week.

Susie Puskar, neighborhood outreach coordinator, said the survey was sent to addresses throughout South Side including residences and businesses. A copy of the survey is also online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SSIDresident for residents or https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/SSIDbusiness for businesses.

Those who include contact information and return their surveys by September 6 will be eligible to win a Double Wide Grille gift certificate. Surveys may also be submitted anonymously.

An improvement district can be formed by the property owners in an area to provide additional or different services than those provided by the city. According to state law, the city is not permitted to decrease the amount of services already available in the district.

Since improvement districts are self-governed, property owners will determine what the desired services are and what the fee will be to provide those services. A South Side improvement district is being explored by the Improvement District Steering Committee of the South Side Planning Forum.

"We want to hear from as many South Siders as possible," she said. The committee is interested in learning what they're happy about as well as what services they what or would like to see changed.

The results of the survey will be discussed at public meetings in October.

Those with questions about the survey or the South Side Improvement District may call Ms. Puskar at 412-481-0651 ext. 11.
