The Port Authority of Allegheny County has added Amanda Green Hawkins as the newest member of its Board of Directors.
Since 2008, Mrs. Hawkins has served as Allegheny County Councilwoman for District 13, representing various Pittsburgh neighborhoods, and will serve as County Council's official presence on Port Authority's Board. Her term on the authority's board expires December 31, 2015.
Mrs. Hawkins is director of the Civil and Human Rights Department and assistant general counsel for United Steelworkers, and has represented the union throughout the United States federal court system. She served as a voter protection attorney for the Democratic Party in 2004 and 2006, and was involved with the Obama-Biden campaign's Counsel for Change and its Labor, Employment and Workplace Committee.
She is a member of the Democratic National Committee and its Rules and Bylaws Committee, as well as the AFL-CIO's Lawyers Coordinating Committee and its Minority Caucus. Additionally, she sits on the University of Pittsburgh's Institute of Politics Board of Fellows and is co-chair of its Workforce Development Policy Committee.
She is a graduate of Duke University and the Northeastern University School of Law.
