Red Cross want to honor local heros in community

May 31, 2011

To honor and celebrate local heroes, the American Red Cross hosts its annual Heroes Breakfast in September. This year, the Red Cross is asking the community's help in choosing honorees; the organization will be collecting nominations until June 30.

The community members recognized at the Heroes Breakfast are individuals who reacted quickly during emergencies to save a life or who have supported emergency preparedness in their communities, among other such deeds. This year, heroes will be honored in seven award categories: Educator; Professional Responder; Military; Medical Professional;Youth; Good Samaritan; and, Lifetime Commitment to the Red Cross

Detailed descriptions of the hero award categories can be found at swpa.redcross.org.

Individuals who think they know someone who fits the description of a community hero can nominate them online at swpa.redcross.org or by calling 412-263-3100. Nominations can also be e-mailed to Brian Knavish at KnavishB @usa.redcross.org.
