Memorial Day services planned for Soldier & Sailors Memorial Hall
Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, 4141 Fifth Avenue, will be holding its annual Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free public event, sponsored by National Physique Committee, USA, is aimed at remembering the men and women who proudly serve or have served in our country's armed forces.
The event offers free admission into the museum, live entertainment, children's activities and veteran remembrance activities. Food and drinks will also be available for purchase. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets to picnic on the front lawn.
At this year's celebration Soldiers & Sailors will unveil a new permanent exhibit featuring working dogs and military mascots. Like servicemen and servicewomen, these extraordinary animals have a difficult job to do, often putting their lives on the line. For this they deserve recognition.
This exhibit will honor their efforts and remarkable achievements as well as raise awareness of their unique services. In conjunction with the new exhibit, the event is going to the dogs. The community is welcome to bring their canines and enjoy a pet friendly day full of events including the premier Patriotic Pup Parade at noon. All dogs and their families are welcomed to participate in the parade.
Prizes will be given out for the most patriotic puppy as well as the most patriotic family.
There will also be working dog demonstrations and the Animal Rescue League Shelter and Wildlife Center and Going Home Greyhounds Rescue will be on site for animal adoptions. At 10:30 a.m. a War on Terrorism Memorial Ceremony will be held in the auditorium to remember Pennsylvania's military servicemen and servicewomen who made the ultimate sacrifice and those still defending freedom.
The ceremony will consist of a prayer service and slide show of names and images of the Pennsylvanian's killed in the War on Terrorism.
