Carson St. to close at Becks Run May 15-23

PennDOT District 11 will begin work to repair or replace a damaged culvert under Route 837 (East Carson Street) on Monday, May 15 in the Borough of Baldwin and the City of Pittsburgh, weather permitting.

The work will require East Carson Street to be closed between Becks Run Road and the Glenwood Bridge around-the-clock from approximately 6 a.m. on Monday, May 15 through May 23. Traffic will be detoured. About 14,473 vehicles use this area of East Carson Street on an average day.

This area has experienced persistent problems with drainage and sinkholes over the past few years. PennDOT is taking this measure to address the problem before more severe damage occurs. The full closure is necessary to excavate the failed pipe beneath East Carson Street.

The posted detour during the project is:

Eastbound: Make left onto Hot Metal Street and cross Hot Metal Bridge? Make right onto Route 885 (Second Avenue); Continue east onto the Glenwood Bridge; Take Glenwood Bridge south; Exit at Glass Run Road and turn left; Access Route 837/East Carson Street.

Westbound: Same detour in opposite direction.

The contractor performing the work is Michael Facchiano Contracting, Inc.

Motorists should use caution, allow extra time, and be aware of changing traffic patterns in the area. Log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before traveling.
