Caregiver support group meets monthly at the Henry Kaufmann Center in Arlington

April 5, 2011

Caregiving can be rewarding but it is rarely easy. Many who care for loved ones do it alone without the help of other family members. Caregivers may think they need no help and find it hard to admit until "Burnout" occurs and they suffer from physical or emotional fatigue.

In an effort to help the caregiver, the Allentown Senior Citizen Centers, Inc. will offer a Caregiver Support Group on the last Thursday of every month at the Henry Kaufmann Center, corner Salisbury and Fernleaf streets. The support group will offer the caregiver a chance to talk with peers to discuss how each cope with daily stress.

Foremost the group will inform participants of supportive community resources and how to go about obtaining services. Speakers will be available to discuss topics of interest such as medical and legal issues. The group is an Alzheimer's Association affiliated support group.

Caregivers are welcome to bring a brown bag lunch if desired. Lunches from the senior program are available to those 60 year of age and older. A donation of $1 is suggested but not necessary.

To register for the meeting or for more information contact Cyndie Carioli 412-481-5220 or Michelle Silliman 412-431-0557 ext. 12.
