Library changing policy for overdue, hold requests
For more than a century Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh has created a lighter carbon footprint by practicing green policies, such as reusing and recycling print and audio materials.
A new policy to eliminate overdue notices and hold requests via U.S. mail to customers will reduce unnecessary paper and is projected to save the library approximately $30,000 a year.
To receive future notices customers have the option of selecting telephone or email notification. Customers are encouraged to update their library account with a current email address and/or phone number prior to January 2011 to avoid disruption of service.
Preference for telephone or email notification may be made in person at any Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh location or by logging onto www.carnegielibrary.org and clicking on the "My Account" feature.
The library will continue to send bills for lost items and fines by mail.
