Carrick food bank in need of assistance

November 16, 2010

The Carrick Food Bank is in need of monetary donations and volunteers to help make packages of food and health and beauty supplies.

The food bank is seeing a large increase in Carrick families in need this year. The need has increased to more than 150 families, up from around 60-80 from previous years. Many families have a large number of children who are in risk of not having a holiday meal. They are requesting assistance with time and or donations from anyone who can help.

Each family receives a package for breakfast, lunch, snacks, frozen foods, and health and beauty supplies, a total of more than 750 packages a month. This holiday season they are specifically looking for holiday fixings and including ham and turkey vouchers (available at local supermarkets).

Monetary donations can be sent to: Zion Christian Church, 2019 Brownsville Rd ., Pittsburgh, PA 15210 or Linda Warble,127 The Blvd, Pittsburgh, PA 15210. Note on the check the donation is intended for the "Food Bank."

Volunteers are also needed to sort food and create packages. The food pantry meets every third Friday at 3 p.m. Next meeting will be Nov. 19 to create Thanksgiving packages.

Those interested in assisting with packages are asked to call the food bank at 412-886-1864.
