Red Cross collecting cards for servicemen

November 9, 2010

With Holiday Mail for Heroes, Send a "Touch of Home" to Our Service Members

In participation with the American Red Cross' Holiday Mail for Heroes program, the local Red Cross will be collecting seasonal cards for soldiers during the course of the next month.

Between now and Dec. 6, the public is asked to send servicemen and women a "touch of home" through holiday cards that contain greetings and messages of cheer and appreciation.

The Holiday Mail for Heroes initiative makes for a great service project for local organizations, school, groups and companies, as well as for a fun family activity. Cards should contain appropriate holiday-themed messages. No materials or inserts should be enclosed with the cards.

The local Red Cross' Pittsburgh office (225 Blvd. of the Allies) will be collecting cards until Dec. 6 or cards can be mailed, postmarked by Dec. 10, to the following address: Holiday Mail for Heroes, P.O. Box 5456, Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

Through its Service to the Armed Forces program, the American Red Cross connects members of the military with their families during times of crisis, and offers 24-hour support and counseling. Last fiscal year, more than 500 military families turned to the local Red Cross' SAF volunteers for assistance during an emergency.
