Flats saturated with parking citations

Over the weekend, Pittsburgh Police conducted a saturation detail in the South Side Flats, from 10th Street to the SouthSide Works, to address illegal parking.

Taking a "no tolerance" stance, police from the Traffic Division issued 243 parking citations and had 84 vehicles towed from the neighborhood. In addition, there were five non-traffic citation arrests, four of the five were alcohol related.

The saturation detail wrote 122 citations and towed 47 cars on Friday night and 121 citations and towed 121 cars on Saturday nights. In addition, the detail officers made one arrest for a hit-and-run accident, one arrest for loud music and a third arrest for public urination on Friday night.

Saturday night, the saturation officers also made three non-traffic arrests and handled two domestic disputes. The detail officers also assisted Zone 3 officers with numerous fight calls during the nights.

Officers reported having residents applaud their efforts during the details.

Police officials plan to continue the parking saturation detail until further notice.
