Senate committee hearing on saturation of liquor licenses

State officials will be coming to South Side to learn more about liquor license saturation and the economic impact on the neighborhood.

The Pennsylvania Senate Law and Justice Committee will hear testimony at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Sokol Club, 2912 East Carson Street.

Invited to testify at the hearing are District 3 Councilman Bruce Kraus and city officials. In addition, representatives from the state Liquor Control Board, Liquor Control Enforcement, the South Side Local Development Company, Neighbors in the Strip and the Bloomfield Garfield Corp. have been invited to speak.

The public is welcome to attend, but may not testify in person. Individuals may provide written testimony to the committee.

Members of the committee include senators: John Pippy, chair; Richard L. Alloway II, vice chair; Joseph B. Scarnati III, ex-officio; and, Edwin B. Erickson, Charles T. McIlhinney Jr., John C. Rafferty Jr., Gene Yaw, Wayne D. Fontana, Michael J. Stack and Christine M. Tartaglione.
