April 20, 2010

Mercy Behavioral Health's Dancing Classrooms Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh Phillips K-5 is one of the programs in the running for a Pepsi Refresh Everything grant.

The national contest awards winners solely based on online voting. Voting is open throughout April and everyone can vote every day with the top 10 vote getters within a category receiving awards.

The Phillips K-5 Dancing Classrooms Program requested $25,000 to support its 2010/2011 program. The link to vote is: http://www. refresheverything.com/dancingclassroomspittsburgh and scroll down to the end of the page to vote. Those voting will be asked to register an email address. It's possible to vote from every individual email account every day.

Dancing Classrooms (DC) teaches students to fox trot, rumba, merengue, tango and swing, while at the same time acquiring self-confidence, self-esteem, respect for self and others, positive experiences in teamwork, communication, and dignity. DC is a regularly scheduled class and at the end, students present a public show of what they have learned

The fifth graders of South Side's Phillips K-5 were one of six Pittsburgh Public Schools to participate in DC this past fall.
