Police post arrest totals in city after St. Patrick's Day Parade celebration

March 16, 2010

Pittsburgh Police conducted roving DUI patrols over the weekend between the hours of 6 p.m. and 4 a.m. throughout the city in conjunction with the St. Patrick's Day parade.

Members of the Pittsburgh DUI Task Force made 77 traffic stops during the patrols resulting in 44 traffic citations and 29 traffic warnings issued. The police also administered 14 Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, making eight arrests and towing three vehicles. There were six additional arrests made as a result of the traffic stops.

Officers also responded to 18 fight calls on the South Side, three motor vehicle crashes and one jumper on the Liberty Bridge.

Police officials point out the checkpoints and roving patrols are effective tools to help remove impaired drivers from the highways.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police participate in PennDOT's Western Alliance/Team DUI program. Western Alliance/Team DUI consists of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Pennsylvania State Police and numerous local departments that conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols across Western Pennsylvania.
