The first annual Forensic competition was held at Pittsburgh Carmalt on Saturday, Jan. 30.
PE Teacher Cindy Holland and Educational Assistant Michelle Lippert worked during tier time with eight Pittsburgh Concord K-5 fifth graders Cierra Smith, Emilee Eichler-Mendoza, Alice Eichler-Mendoza, Jocelyn Dytko, Nick Bell, Clarice Taylor, Adam Laslo and Madline Jagielski to prepare them for the competition.
The students prepared daily by practicing their prose or poetry selection for the competition. The students read their selection in front of judges and students from other schools. The Pittsburgh Concord Forensic Team took first place in the competition that was comprised of 12 teams.
The process helped the students' reading comprehension, oral fluency skills, self-esteem, articulation, and confidence in public speaking.
Susan M. Barie, Concord principal, will reward the students with a "Lunch with the Principal" surprise.
