OASIS honored Hugh J Brannan III, Executive Director of Brashear Association, Inc., the Administrative Sponsor of Pittsburgh OASIS, for his assistance and encouragement during the last 22 plus years. The event was held in the Forbes Room, Macy's 11th floor, Downtown Pittsburgh.
OASIS was established in 1986 as a chapter of The OASIS Institute, a 501 (c)(3) organization that oversees a national network of OASIS centers in 25 United States communities. Hugh Brannan and The Brashear Association have partnered with OASIS since that time.
Pittsburgh OASIS has become its own 501c3 as of January 1, 2010. Pittsburgh OASIS is now governed by a national Board of Directors and also works with an advisory council of community leaders and OASIS participants. Pittsburgh OASIS is now a supporting organization under The OASIS Institute's group exemption status and formed its own governing board.
"Hugh Brannan has been like a good parent who has given his child – OASIS- wings and told us us that we can fly away, but still remain friends and grow the partnership in a new way. It has been a privilege to partner with Hugh. He has always provided guidance. He inspired me to do my best," Gail Weisberg Executive Director of OASIS said.
OASIS is a national education organization dedicated to enriching the lives of adults age 50 and older through lifelong learning and service. Offering stimulating programs in the arts, humanities, health, technology and volunteer service, OASIS brings people together to learn, lead and contribute in their communities.
