Cassidy remains president of Mt. Oliver Borough Council

Councilmembers, mayor take Oath of Office

The reorganization meeting of the Mount Oliver Borough Council on January 4 went quickly and smoothly as if it were scripted.

With only sitting council members James Cassidy, Billie Mitchner and Dennis Obeldobel in their regular seats, Mayor Jeffrey Repasky took the oath of office from area District Magisterial Judge Richard King. The judge then administered the oath to newly elected members of council, Patrick F. Malloy, John W. Smith, Christine Brendel and Sara Kudasick.

Mayor Repasky opened the meeting by appointing Joanne M. Malloy to act as borough secretary during the proceedings.

In rapid fire fashion Mr. Cassidy was nominated and elected as president of council; Mr. Malloy as vice-president of council; and, Mr. Obeldobel as president pro-tem. The president pro-tem chairs council meetings in the absence of the president and vice-president.

In other actions the following appointments were made: Ralph Woods, Vacancy Board chair; Ms. Malloy, borough secretary; Diane C. Holzer, borough treasurer; and, James N. Perich, borough solicitor. Ruthann Omer and Gateway Engineers was appointed borough engineer.

Thomas Plietz was named code enforcement officer, fire marshal and building inspector and Building Inspection Underwriters/Middle-Atlantic Inspections, Inc. were appointed the borough's electricial inspection company. Ronald Smith was appointed street commissioner and Steve Wilharm as ordinance officer and emergency management coordinator.

The South Pittsburgh Reporter was designated as the borough's official advertising agent for 2010-2011. The official depository for the Mount Oliver Borough for 2010-2011 will be Northwest Bank and the bonding company will be Beynon & Company.

In other appointments, council appointed members to serve on South Hills Area Council of Government's (SHACOG) committees: Council President Cassidy will serve as the primary delegate to the Board of Directors and Mr. Malloy as the alternate delegate; Ms. Malloy on the Administrative Advisory Committee; Ronald Smith on the Public Works Advisory Committee; Chief of Police Frank Mossesso on the Police Chiefs Advisory Committee; Mr. Plietz on the Code Enforcement Officer Advisory Committee; and, John Smith on the Telecommunications Franchising Authorizing Board and Cable Joint Rate Review Board.

John Smith was also appointed as primary delegate for the Allegheny County Boroughs Association and Mr. Perich as the alternate delegate.
