Sign up for Market House indoor hockey in January

December 15, 2009

The Market House Children's Athletic Association in South Side will be holding registrations for the upcoming Winter Indoor Hockey Program.

Boys and girls, ages 4-13 as of January 1, 2110, are eligible to participate. Parents may register their children either online at www.\mhcaa, or in person at the Market House on Monday, Dec. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. or Tuesday, Dec. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.

A $20 non-refundable fee per child is required at time of registration. Those who register online are required to pay the fee by the first day of the program. There will also be required fundraising activities for all participants.

The program will begin on Monday, Jan. 11, with a period of instruction and/or scrimmage games prior to the start of the regular season. All games will be played on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays, with each team playing one or two games per week.

Games will start at 5 p.m. with the youngest age brackets playing first. The age brackets and additional time slots will be determined based on final registrations. All players are required to bring their own hockey equipment to the games. Required equipment consists of a helmet, stick (covered blade), gloves, shin pads and all players must wear tennis shoes.

Once teams are formed and prior to the first game, players will receive a game tee-shirt. A display of required equipment will be on hand during the two evenings for walk-in registrations.

The season will close with a traditional awards banquet in April or early May.

Information will be available for players interested in joining the Carrick Ice Hockey Club who want to learn to ice skate and increase their hockey skills. Boys and girls in grades 6-12 are eligible to join the Carrick Ice Hockey Club. There is no Carrick residency requirement to join the program.

The South Side Market House is at 15 Bedford Square, just below 12th and E. Carson streets. For more information call 412-488-8390 or 412-508-9793.
