Local resident part of Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle

South Sider Travis Shane has found a unique way to make his mark on the world.

A professional musician, he joins forces with dozens of Pittsburgh area homemakers, engineers, teachers, laborers, students, retirees and members of other professions, who since 2005 have participated in a novel project that documents their perceptions of life in the 21st century.

The Pittsburgh Songwriters Circle a part of Calliope: The Pittsburgh Folk Music Society, is preparing to release its fifth annual compilation album on Saturday, Nov. 14, 7 p.m. at a free performance at Moondog's in Blawnox.

The project is a collection of the thoughts, dreams and perceptions of ordinary people who share a compulsion to write songs. In five years, the project has documented 73 original songs by 38 individual closet songwriters, most of who rarely perform in public.
