Elder Outreach volunteers needed

October 27, 2009

The Elder Outreach Volunteer Program, a component of Hilltop Health Ministries Consortium, is looking for volunteers who can spare an hour (or more) now and then, as their schedule allows.

Unlike other programs, volunteers are not obligated to work a predetermined number of hours – only what fits into their schedule. Volunteers are desperately needed.

Volunteers can pick and choose the tasks they are willing and able to do. Friendly phone calls (from the comfort of their living room), transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping, delivering prescriptions from the pharmacy, and occasional household chores are among the list of needs most requested. Incentives include a gift card for anyone who completes the short, informal training as well as supplemental car/personal liability insurance and mileage reimbursement (for volunteer drivers). (

Here is how it works: Elders call the office when they have a need. The volunteer coordinator then calls the volunteer to see if he or she is available. If not, they move on to the next volunteer until the need is met.

Volunteers report that they receive much more than they give when they volunteer for this program.

For more information or to register for the November 7 training, call Cyndie Carioli at 412-481-5591.
