Cougars recruiting ice hockey players

September 15, 2009

The Carrick Cougars ice hockey teams are still seeking players to add to their rosters for the 2009-2010 season.

They are also looking to add additional goalies to the teams and will train those who would like to learn the position. The Cougars have teams at the following levels: Freshmen consisting of 6th -9th grade players; Junior Varsity consisting of 8th -11th grade players; and, Varsity consisting of 9th -12th grade players.

Beginning players can participate in the Developmental Program at a significantly reduced rate. The Developmental Program allows beginning players to develop their skills and increase their confidence while participating with the teams at their level to prepare for the following season.

The Cougars participate in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL). Their home ice is Ice Castle Arena, in Castle Shannon. Players do not have to attend Carrick High School or live in Carrick to be eligible to play on Cougar teams, as long as the high school they attend or will be attending does not have a hockey program participating in PIHL and they are in 6th through 12th grade. They currently have players who attend Brashear, Perry, Brentwood, and City High Charter School along with various middle schools.

The Carrick Cougars will be holding a "Car Wash Fundraiser Event" on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held at the A-Automotive Service Center, 2315 Brownsville Road across from the Carrick Shopping Center.

To learn more about the Carrick Cougar teams or to attend an upcoming practice session and for more information contact John Shamlin at 412-508-9793.
