Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Power of Work Awards sponsored by Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania to recognize employers who help people with special needs overcome barriers to employment.
Deadline for nominations is September 11 and winners will be honored at a recognition ceremony at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland on October 22.
The Power of Work Awards competition is open to employers of all types and sizes – businesses, public entities and nonprofit organizations – in Allegheny and surrounding counties.
"Anyone can nominate an employer and any employer can win," said Vicki S. Cook, director of development at Goodwill. "Employers are encouraged to nominate themselves and nominations also may be submitted by employees, other businesses or organizations, referral agencies, just about anyone."
Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges who evaluate the nominees' efforts in support of workforce development and in creating enhanced opportunities for people who face various barriers to employment. Since the program's inception in 1997, Goodwill has presented its Power of Work Award to 37 different employers.
Additional information and nomination forms are available from Ms. Cook at 412-390-2260 or vicki.cook@ goodwillswpa.org. The nomination form also may be downloaded from Goodwill's Website, www.goodwill swpa.org.
