I want to express what an impressive sight and politically reassuring phenomenon I witnessed over the weekend: an energized team of supporters of Franco "Dok" Harris – who is running for mayor – pounding the pavement, going door-to-door, talking with and, more importantly, listening to people in the community.
In fact, I stopped to question "Dok" (as he is called) and was impressed by his candor and genuine concern for the city and what it faces. Perhaps most impressive was the large group of people from all backgrounds volunteering on a Sunday in the extreme heat and humidity for who should be the next mayor of Pittsburgh.
If you see the bright yellow shirts in your neighborhood, take a minute to say hello, listen and maybe offer us something cold to drink – I will be walking with them in the weekends to come.
