The Coffee House at the South Side Presbyterian Church will feature singer/songwriter and keyboarist Joy Ike on Friday, June 12, from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
Ms. Ike, a Pittsburgh-grown Nigerian artist, was voted "Best Artist" and "Best Solo Artist" in 2008 by readers of Pittsburgh City Paper. Her music is an indie-infused mix of jazz, pop and new-soul. Her first full-length album, Good Morning, was released in 2008 and has received rave reviews from local and national media.
Information will be available about a nonprofit group, Rice Bowls, which raised funds for food for children in orphanages in some of the world's neediest regions.
The Coffee House at the South Side Presbyterian Church is held the second Friday of each month at the corner of South 20th and Sarah streets in the South Side. It includes candlelight conversation, creative performers, discussions of social issues and refreshments with a suggested donation of $4. For more information, call 412-431-0118.
