Carrick's going gardening for the 17th year


The Carrick Community Council and the Carrick Business Association are sponsoring the 17th annual "Carrick Goes Gardening" contest.

The contest encourages and recognizes the gardening efforts of Carrick's residents, churches and businesses. Any home, apartment, business, church or school is welcome to participate. Any yard, hillside, patio or porch is a potential garden site. First time and veteran gardeners are encouraged to participate and help beautify area streets and neighborhoods.

Entry forms are available at the Carrick Library; Hess Floral Shop, 2601 Brownsville Road; and, at Representative Harry Readshaw's office, 1917 Brownsville Road, or by a calling 412 884-3834 or by an e-mailing a message to Use the title "Garden Contest." Those entering the contest should leave their name, address, and phone number and the area of the garden to be judged. (Those who phoned or emailed and have not received a confirmation by July 3, should call 412-884-3834 and request a call-back.

The deadline for entering the contest is July 3. Impartial volunteer judges will visit each garden sometime between July 6 to July 24. Gardeners do not need to be home during judging.

Awards will be presented on September 9 at Concord School on Brownsville Road as part of the Carrick Community Council's meeting. All entrants will be recognized. Prizes will be awarded in many diverse categories and winners must be present.
