Boro needs your suggestions for mural

April 7, 2009

Mount Oliver will have a new mural brightening up the wall behind the clock tower at the corner of Hays and Brownsville Road.

Borough Councilwoman Billie Michener explained that Moving the Lives of Kids (MLK) is interested in painting two murals in the borough, a sports themed mural in Ormsby Park and a second mural on the brick wall at the clock tower.

Ms. Michener said the mural in the business district will be more of a "storytelling of Mount Oliver" illustrating the past, present and future of the borough. She would like to hear from area residents about what they would like to see on the mural, what they remember of the past.

The councilwoman said she recently learned that the land the borough is in was once featured many peach trees. She would like to learn more of the history that could be placed on the mural.

Anyone with suggestions should call Ms. Michener at 412-381-0420 before Monday, April 13.

After final approval and a few more details are worked out the mural will take approximately five weeks to paint on the wall. A grand unveiling is planned for late July.
