The closures began at 7 a.m. on Monday, March 9, and continue around-the-clock through mid-April. In addition, intermittent lane restrictions may occur on East Carson Street from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly through mid-April. The closures and restrictions are necessary as crews install storm and sanitary systems. Detour signs will be posted to guide motorists during the closures. Traffic will follow East Carson Street to the next intersection to bypass the closed areas.
The $14.3 million project developed in cooperation with the City of Pittsburgh and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) includes widening and reconstructing about one mile of East Carson Street to accommodate additional lanes beginning just west of South 25th Street to just east of Sara Street. Work also includes intersection improvements, traffic signals, drainage, sidewalk and curb upgrades and other construction. The majority of work will occur on the north side of East Carson Street.
Traffic impacts on East Carson Street will be minimal at this time. A single 12-foot wide lane will be maintained in each direction around-the-clock. Some side street and sidewalk closures will be necessary as the project progresses. Additional information will be provided as these closures are scheduled.
Pedestrians and motorists are advised to use extreme caution when traveling on East Carson Street in the construction area.
