Wheatley sworn in to fourth term

State Rep. Jake Wheatley, D-Allegheny, was sworn in to his fourth term in the House of Representatives.

Rep. Wheatley also has been chosen by his colleagues in the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus to serve as vice chairman of the PLBC for the 2009-10 session.

“The national economy is already having a negative impact on Pennsylvania's budget, and I will continue working in the coming months to protect vital services for our communities and the Commonwealth. I am also hopeful that the Obama administration and Congress will help the states to meet expenses for the health-care safety net and other core programs as a crucial part of the federal economic stimulus package,” Rep. Wheatley said.

In the 2007-08 session, Mr. Wheatley served as the chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education as well as the chairman of the Health and Human Services Subcommittee on Health, and as a member of the Education and Transportation committees, treasurer for the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus and as the vice chairman for the Democratic Policy Committee. He also has served as a deputy majority whip for the House Democratic Caucus.

Rep. Wheatley represents the 19th Legislative District, which includes historic Pittsburgh neighborhoods such as the Hill District, North Side, South Side, Allentown, Hazelwood, Downtown, the Bluff, Knoxville, Beltzhoover, Manchester, Arlington, Arlington Heights, and West, South and North Oakland.
