Zone 3 police called to Station Square stabbing
The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Homicide Squad is investigating an overnight stabbing that occurred at the Matrix Nightclub located at 7 Station Square Drive on December 29.
At approximately 12:45 a.m ., a Pittsburgh police officer, who was working an off-duty uniformed detail near the bar, reported a large disturbance at the nightclub. He then reported that a man had been stabbed during the altercation.
Zone 3 officers responded and found a 23 year old Munhall man lying in the bar's entrance area. Club personnel were administering first aid to the victim by applying direct pressure to the bleeding neck wound. The victim was transported to UPMC Mercy Hospital listed in critical condition. His condition has since stabilized.
When police arrived they also observed a large and highly disorderly crowd inside the club. Additional cars from Zones 6, 2, and 4 also responded to assist the Zone 3 officers with crowd control.
Uniformed police and detectives were able to identify a majority of the 700 patrons who were in the club. They also interviewed many people that were reportedly involved in the fight, but were unable to find anyone who witnessed the stabbing. It is believed that the victim was stabbed with a broken glass bottle.
No arrests have been made at this time.
