Womansplace receives $15,000 donation from Allstate

December 22, 2008

Womansplace is the winner of the Allstate Insurance Company's Your Choice Charity SM program for Pittsburgh.

The organization netted more than 39,000 online votes during the month of November to net a $15,000 donation from Allstate.

“Each and every one of the 39,691 votes logged in support of Womansplace during the Your Choice CharitySM program represents a Pittsburgh resident who is making a difference in the lives of survivors of domestic violence,” said Tracey King, communication manager of Allstate.

The Your Choice CharitySM program is one way that Allstate recognizes community causes. To celebrate the positive impact Your Choice Auto® has had on customers, Allstate created a program that allows people to vote for the charity of their choice to receive a contribution. Allstate's two signature causes are supporting survivors of domestic violence and encouraging safe driving.

In Pittsburgh, four domestic violence shelters were chosen to participate in the Your Choice CharitySM program. Although Womansplace led the vote count, the three other organizations in the running – Crisis Center North, Alle-Kiksi HOPE Center, Inc. and Women's Center & Shelter Greater Pittsburgh – were “winners” in that they each generated tens of thousands of online votes to support their cause.

All four organizations are also a part of the Allstate “Good Hands™” Donation program. The “Good Handssm” Donation Program is in its inaugural year in the Pittsburgh community. For every pass caught by a Steelers player this season, The Allstate Foundation is giving a $100 donation to the four domestic violence shelters across the greater Pittsburgh area.

With a total of 239 completed passes to date, that equates to a $23,900 donation to support the cause of assisting survivors of domestic violence in the Pittsburgh area.
