The Allegheny County Health Department is sponsoring its 10th annual environmental poster contest for students in grades 6-8.
The theme of this year's contest is “Alternative Transportation” and aims to promote modes of transportation that are more environmentally friendly and economically efficient, such as hybrid and biofuel-powered vehicles, carpooling, busing, biking and walking.
“We're urging students to think green both environmentally and economically by depicting alternative forms of transportation that not only keep our air clean but also save money and natural resources,” said County Health Director Dr. Bruce W. Dixon.
The deadline for entries is February 13, 2009. Winners will be announced in conjunction with Earth Day celebrations next April.
Teachers who would like to have their classes participate in the poster contest should contact the Health Department for details.
