October 28, 2008

The exhibit “Banska Stiavnica” will be showcased by Slovak photographer, Rastislav Misik, in a photography exhibition from October 16-November 30 at Point Park University, Thayer Hall Gallery, second floor.

The exhibit is named after the city in Slovakia in which the photos were taken. Banska Stiavnica is listed as a UN World Heritage site and is a fully preserved medieval city.

Mr. Misik, a nature and landscape photographer, earned his Masters in Photography from the Academy of Fine Art and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia. He will be on campus for three days to present his photography and stories to photography and sociology classes in addition to conducting a photography portfolio review for students.

Chris Rolinson, assistant professor photojournalism, spent time studying with Mr. Misik when he was in the United States on a one semester exchange at Slippery Rock University. He met with Mr. Misik in Slovakia this past summer and arranged for him to come to Point Park.

These events have been organized with significant cooperation by the new School of Communication and the Humanities and Human Sciences Department as they develop and expand the Global Cultural Studies program.

Other sponsors include: Point Park University School of Arts and Science, Western Pennsylvania Slovak Cultural Association, Pittsburgh Filmmakers, Point Park University National Press Photographers Association and American Society of Media Photographers Pittsburgh.
